SUMMARY:The Hall of Clestrain\, Orkney
DESCRIPTION:TOM ADDYMAN\, ADDYMAN ARCHAEOLOGY\, SIMPSON & BROWN ARCHITECTS \nClestrain Hall was built in the 1760s and was the childhood home of arctic explorer John Rae. It is an exceptional survival of Georgian architecture and is currently being restored for a new future by the John Rae Society. The archaeological team is led by historic buildings archaeologist Tom Addyman who will be talking about unravelling the history of Clestrain Hall through analysis of the building itself and archaeological excavation.

DESCRIPTION:MITFORD LECTURE\, PROFESSOR MIKE PARKER PEARSON \nIn the last two decades research on Stonehenge has revolutionised our understanding of this iconic stone circle and its builders. Archaeological excavations and a remarkable range of scientific methods have cast light on many new aspects of when\, how and why Stonehenge was built. With some of Stonehenge’s stones now known to have been brought hundreds of miles from west Wales and even northern Scotland\, it is becoming apparent that the monument’s purpose may have been connected with the forging of long-distance links across Britain. \nLecture starts at 6:30pm. \nDoors open for drinks and light refreshments 5:45pm. \nBuy or renew your £10 membership for the whole year. \nOr £5 for the lecture only. \nStudents free.
