SUMMARY:Uncovering Roman Carlisle
DESCRIPTION:ANNA GIECCO and NICK HENDERSON \nDig directors Anna Giecco and Nick Henderson will bring us up to date with the latest findings from Roman Carlisle. Their long-running excavations have already uncovered evidence of a possible mansio – a  substantial and well-equipped building provided by the government for the use of travelling officials\, the most luxurious of which contain bath houses\, painted wall plaster and hypocaust systems. New discoveries this year include a timber temple which was glazed and plastered\, and an intriguing glimpse of possible river frontage activity with finds including large quantities of amphorae and a small stone anchor.

SUMMARY:The Assault on Burnswark Hill: a conflict re-imagined
DESCRIPTION:JOHN REID\, THE TRIMONTIUM TRUST \nAdvances in digital technology are opening up ever-more realistic ways to depict archaeological sites and events from the past. This talk describes how landscape archaeology and excavated evidence have been used to create a detailed and dramatic model of a Roman attack on a hillfort in Dumfriesshire. This technique has then been used to create a fully immersive experience at Trimontium Museum in Melrose\, where visitors can encounter something of the ferocity of a Roman assault.
